Stewart Schatz

This is the first portable digital camera.  It was developed by Steve Sasson in 1975.  They were granted a patent in 1978, but did disclose their work to the public until 2001.

A quote from the technical report verifies that the team that put it together didn’t really know what they had:

The camera described in this report represents a first attempt demonstrating a photographic system which may, with improvements in technology, substantially impact the way pictures will be taken in the future.
